Koppal: A 52-year-old tourist from France sustained critical injuries after slipping while trying to ascend a hill at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Hampi, located in Vijayanagara. The injured man, named Bruno Roger, had a fall from a hill close to the Mahanavami Dibba around 6pm on Dec 24.According to police reports, Roger travelled alone from France to India and was residing at a homestay in Kaddirampura. He ventured to the backside of the octagonal bathing hill near the Mahanavami Dibba at Hampi when he lost his footing and incurred a serious leg injury.Given that the area is mostly uninhabited, Roger was left stranded at the site for nearly two days. Despite his injuries, he managed to crawl to a banana plantation nearby, where local residents finally spotted him on Friday and alerted the police.Kamalapur police, along with officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), quickly arrived at the scene and rescued Roger. After initial treatment, he was transported to the district hospital in Koppal for further care.Medical personnel at the district hospital said that Roger’s condition is stable and that he is recovering from his injuries. Due to a language barrier, his account of the incident remains largely undisclosed. This incident has once again raised safety concerns for visitors at Hampi, a well-known tourist spot. The police and district administration have urged tourists to avoid exploring remote areas by themselves.
