Tigress rescued near Bandipur Tiger Reserve

Mysuru: A 4-year-old tigress was rescued in a Tumakuru cage in Depapura village bordering Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district on Thursday.According to forest dept officials, the big cat was trapped in the cage around 11am. “It is healthy and was taken to Bandipur for observation. A decision on releasing the tigress back into the woods will be made by the senior officials,” sources said. Last week, this tigress killed two cows in the nearby areas,” sources said.According to the authorities, it is the second tigress to have trapped in the cage. “Last week, a tiger was caught in the Hediyala range in a similar way,” they said.Meanwhile, the foresters have continued the operation to locate and rescue five tigers from Nanjadevanpura village of Chamarajanagar district. Although the operation was launched on Tuesday after CCTV footage showed the presence of a tigress and her four cubs in the area, the foresters were unable to rescue them. The operation poses a challenge as they have to rescue all five tigers at the same time due to apprehensions that a missing tiger could wander and start attacking livestock or humans.
