BENGALURU Bengaluru police booked a 51-year-old former MLA from Uttar Pradesh on charges of raping a 40-year-old woman inside a hotel room after promising to marry her.The woman filed a complaint with Kempegowda International Airport police Sunday against Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit from Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh.“We are issuing a notice to the suspect, directing him to appear before us for investigation. According to the woman, he twice represented Debai constituency from a well-known political party many years ago. The woman is married and has an eight-year-old son. After distancing from her husband, she was befriended by the accused, who promised to make her a politician. He also promised that he would marry her,” police said.The woman alleged that the former MLA is married with children, but he hid the fact from her.The complainant and her son came to Bengaluru on Aug 14, and Sharma allegedly took them to different places, including Chitradurga. “On Aug 17 (Sunday), we checked into different rooms of a hotel close to Kempegowda International Airport. He took me to his room, clicked my pictures, and recorded my video. Thereafter, he raped me. When I resisted, he issued dire threats and left,” she said.
