Gadag: The district police superintendent, Rohan Jagadish, said that the theft case at Shantadurga Jewellers near city’s Tontadarya Math was solved in just six hours when the suspect was arrested and goods worth Rs 80 lakh were recovered. During a press conference at the Town police station on Thursday, he said the accused was identified as Mohammad Husain, son of Mohammad Mustafa Siddiqui from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The suspect was staying in a lodge next to Shantadurga Jewellers for a week before the incident. He used a gas cutter to cut through the iron bars of a third-floor window of the gold shop, entered, and stole items. “Following the theft, the police intensified their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and examining lodge records to establish that the accused was heading towards Maharashtra,” SP shared. He further revealed that with information shared with the police in Solapur and Sangli districts of Maharashtra, the suspect was arrested near Kinni Naka with their assistance. All stolen items were recovered, and a gas cutter and other tools used in the theft were seized, Rohan added.
