MCC wards: CCTV cams to monitor cleanliness

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) completed the work on installing solar-powered CCTV cameras at black spots across all 60 wards under the Swachh Bharat Mission 1.0. The Rs 45-lakh project includes installation, commissioning, and one-year maintenance of the solar-powered cameras with all accessories to ensure better sanitation surveillance.Dayanand Poojary, environment engineer, MCC, said that the work of installation of cameras and accessories at the identified black spots was completed a few days ago. “The footage of people throwing waste at black spots recorded by the solar power cameras can be monitored centrally from the city corporation. We will depute two staff to retrieve footage from the cameras, and they will share the same with the health inspectors of the respective wards. The footage will also be shared on social media and with the police of respective jurisdictions. Meanwhile, the MCC will also impose penalties on the persons based on the footage,” he said.The registration numbers of the vehicles, in which people bring waste and throw it in public places, will be shared with the police for further action. On the penalty imposing process, the officer said that initially, the city corporation will levy Rs 500 from the violators, so that awareness will be created. Later, the penalty amount will be increased, he said.Out of 60 new cameras, 52 were installed at various locations, while eight were erected at the waste management plant at Pachanady to monitor the process. The waste management process at Pachanady will be monitored by the health section officials using the mobile app. Meanwhile, the city corporation earlier installed 10 cameras at various black spots in the city. Altogether, 62 CCTV cameras will be operational in the city to monitor violations and take punitive measures, he said, adding that the new cameras will be operational within a week.
