Belagavi: Hirebagewadi police arrested a youth from Alnavar on Friday and recovered four bikes from him, costing around Rs 2.7 lakh.In the wake of the increase in vehicle theft cases in Belagavi, the Belagavi City Police, which conducted a major operation on Thursday, arrested an accused and recovered motorcycles stolen from various places. The arrested person was identified as Ajay alias Ajit Basavaraj Bhajantri, 19, of Alanavar village in Dharwad district. The 4 stolen motorcycles were recovered from him.The operation was carried out under the guidance of Belagavi city police commissioner Bhushan Borase and deputy police commissioners Narayan Bharamani, Niranjan Raje Urs, and ACP BM Gangadhar of Belagavi Rural sub-division. A team led by police inspector SK Holennavar of Hirebagewadi arrested an accused who was roaming suspiciously with a stolen motorcycle. During intensive interrogation of the accused, cases of theft from Allavar Vishnu Lodge, Dharwad New Bus Stand, and Kittur Chennamma Circle areas came to light, the police said.Bikes worth a total of approximately Rs 2.7 lakh from various companies were seized from the arrested person.The Belagavi police commissioner praised the performance of the special operation team consisting of PSIs Avinash Yaragoppa, BK Mitagar, MI Turamari, Gurusidda Panjim Manikabar, and Mahantesh Kadannavar Kelaginamani.
