Hubballi: Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner N Shashi Kumar stated that the investigation into the murder of an elderly woman under the jurisdiction of Vidyanagar police station in Hubballi revealed that the woman’s son committed the murder. The accused was taken into custody.Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Shashi Kumar said that Ashok Mallappa Mulagund fatally beat his mother Ningavva Mallappa Mulagund, 78, to death with a wooden stick in Ambikanagar, Unkal, on Wednesday morning. It was revealed that he committed the act over a dispute concerning gold and property. He mentioned that the accused, Ashok, was taken into custody at Ganesh Colony on Gamanagatti Road in Hubballi on Thursday morning and will be remanded in judicial custody.Shashi Kumar also mentioned that in a separate case, the police succeeded in arresting five accused who demanded Rs 1.5 crore from a cooperative society under the guise of RTI activists. Manjunath Haddannavar from Gadag Betageri, Veeresh Lingadal, Mahadeshwar Lingadal, Mahabaleshwar Mankal Shirur, and Shivappa Bommanalli from Mundagod, were arrested.When Manjunath Haddannavar and the other four accused were taking Rs 1.7 lakh near the new bus stand, the police raided and arrested the five and seized Rs 1.7 lakh from the accused, he said.
