Mysuru: The state-run Cheluvamba Hospital has decided to set up an IVF clinic and fertility centre for the benefit of patients. The hospital authorities have started the process to establish the new unit.In the annual budget presented during 2023, the state govt announced plans to set up such clinics to ensure IVF services along with fertility treatment in four different parts of the state, including Mysuru. The clinic will not only provide solutions for infertility issues and increase pregnancy rates, but it also has advantages like using donor eggs or sperm, reducing miscarriage, avoiding the risk of multiple births, and offering the option for fertility preservation through embryo freezing. It will also provides opportunities for genetic screening to help in cases where other fertility treatments have failed.The department of medical education has started the construction of an IVF clinic after identifying the spot in Cheluvamba Hospital premises and completing various processes.70% of civil work doneOver 70% of the civil works for the construction of the unit is completed. This state-of-the-art fertility clinic with IVF services is coming up with a total cost of Rs 2.5 crore, including the construction cost, laboratory, and appointment of staff. The IVF clinic offers comprehensive services for couples in need, including infertility evaluation, semen analysis, IUI, and IVF, along with plans for a dedicated operation theatre for keyhole surgeries, authorities stated.A dedicated team of doctors and support staff will be appointed for the purpose once the state-of-the-art facility is fully operational. The clinic aims to provide services at a lower cost compared to private hospitals, making fertility care affordable for the common man.Speaking to TOI, dean and director of Mysuru Medical College and Research Centre (MMCRI) said that as over 70 percent of the civil works for the construction of the IVF clinic building are completed, we are also preparing to float a tender for the purchase of necessary equipment to be installed in the clinic. “Once the building works are complete and the equipment arrives, we will also take steps to appoint the necessary staff for the clinic. All the work will be completed in 3 to 4 months. The IVF clinic will be ready for public use once all these works are completed within its set deadline of 6 months,” she said.“The establishment of a state-run facility will help a lot of common people access fertility care treatment, providing a ray of hope for such people to realise the dream of parenthood,” said Mahadevaswamy, a villager.
