Shivamogga: Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences is organising a four-day agriculture and horticulture fair from Friday (Nov 7) at the university premises in Navule, on the outskirts of Shivamogga city. The fair’s theme is ‘Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperative Farming’.Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, vice-chancellor RC Jagdish said the fair would feature exhibitions on agriculture and horticulture, demonstrations of various crops, farm equipment, and interactive sessions with scientists. The fair aims to promote sustainable agriculture practices, showcase new technologies, and provide a platform for farmers to interact with experts.The fair will include exhibitions on major crops, seedlings, and varieties, as well as demonstrations on integrated farming systems, protected cultivation, and value addition. There will also be a focus on millets, horticulture, and forestry. The fair will also recognise and reward progressive farmers and farm women who have made significant contributions to agriculture and horticulture.The fair will be inaugurated by agriculture minister N Cheluvarayaswamy. District minister S Madhu Bangarappa and minister for mines, geology, and horticulture SS Mallikarjun will attend.The university has developed new crop varieties and technologies, including a new variety of red rice called ‘Sahyadri Sindhoora’ and a new ragi variety called ‘KMR 630′. The university has also been working on improving agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable agriculture practices in the region, the VC said.
