Udupi District Hospital marks World Stroke Day; doctors urge youth to lead awareness drive

UDUPIInaugurating the event, District Leprosy Eradication Officer and KaBHI Programme Officer Dr Latha Nayak said that youth should take the lead in creating awareness about stroke among the public.District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Basavaraj Hubballi said that nursing students play a significant role in spreading awareness about stroke. Such educational programmes help sensitise the public to health issues. He emphasised that a healthy and diverse diet provides the essential nutrients necessary for optimal body function, including vitamins, minerals, and other key elements. Consuming such foods can help reduce the risk of stroke, he added.Presiding over the programme, District Surgeon Dr Ashok said that in India, 145 people per lakh population suffer from stroke, and three new cases occur every minute. To bring down these numbers, the youth must pay close attention to their diet and physical activity, he advised.He added that incorporating stroke-preventive foods into daily meals, along with regular physical exercise and a balanced, varied diet, is crucial for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. Making mindful food choices can play a major role in preventing strokes and ensuring long-term health, he noted.Resident Medical Officer Dr Vasudev delivered a lecture on stroke and its prevention. Also present were Jennifer, lecturer at Niramaya Nursing College, Leelavathi, Nursing Officer at the District Hospital, and others.
