Notice issued to three Karnataka cops over currency shower incident

Bengaluru: A show-cause notice was issued against three cops serving in the Channapatna-Ramanagara-Bengaluru south district after qawwali participants showered currency notes on them during a religious ceremony last Friday. The show-cause notice was issued by Ramanagar superintendent of police Srinivas Gowda to sub-inspector Harish CM, assistant sub-inspector Fairoz from Channapatna Town police station, and another staffer, Durgappa, from Channapatna East police station. According to a senior police official, the three were on bandobast duty at Badamakan Dargah to participate in the celebrations of Hazrat Syed Mohammed Akhil Shah and qawwali was performed at the end. “After the qawwali, organisers called the three cops onto the stage to thank them. They were garlanded, and a memento was presented. Then, some men showered currency notes of Rs 20 on them. However, none of the cops took the money. Instead, the currencies were collected by others. But the three cops were unaware of the fact that currencies would be thrown on them,” he said.
