Udupi: Udupi police raided several places in connection with the illegal and dangerous storage of crackers, along with their purchase for sale during Deepavali. SP Hariram Shankar said that the raid was conducted at three places in Karkala Town, Bramhavar, and Kota police station. Cases are being booked, and crackers are being seized. The raids were conducted in Miyar, Kunjal, and Thekkatte areas.The seized crackers will be shifted to licensed magazine (explosives) storage areas and destroyed later. Cases are booked under 9(B) (1) (b) Explosives Act and 287, 288 of BNS.Kota police have booked K Prashanth Jogi, 44, from Thekkatte village, Kundapur taluk. It was found that the accused illegally stored firecrackers and explosives worth Rs 1.6 lakh, consisting of 332 boxes of various brands, in a shed near his house near the Mahalingeshwara Temple in Thekkatte village. The storage was done without a license and without taking any safety precautions, thereby posing a risk to human life.Brahmavar police have registered a case against Shivananda Rao, 50, a resident of Kunjalu, Aroor village, Brahmavar taluk. The accused illegally stored firecrackers and explosives worth Rs 35,000, consisting of 16 boxes of various brands, without obtaining a license and without taking any safety precautions, thereby endangering human life.Karkala Town police have also booked a case against Satyendra Nayak, 70, Shrikanth Nayak, 37 and Ramananda Nayak, 48, of Miyar village. The accused illegally stored fireworks and explosives worth over Rs 1 crore, consisting of various brands of firecrackers, in their old residential house. They did so without obtaining a licence and without taking any safety precautions, thereby posing a serious risk to human life.
