3 held for robbing Tamil Nadu cop & family on Mysuru highway

Bengaluru: Channapatna police have arrested three youngsters for allegedly robbing a police sub-inspector from Tamil Nadu and his family of a gold chain, Rs 10,000 in cash, and two mobile phones. The incident took place in the early hours of Oct 7 on the Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway.Shaji PJ, who serves as a special police sub-inspector with Cherambadi police station in Nilgiris district, filed a complaint stating he had parked his car by the side of the highway when miscreants, on a gearless scooter, approached the family and threatened them at knifepoint before speeding away with the valuables.“I came to Bengaluru to pick up my son who’d completed a hotel management course. We were driving back to Tamil Nadu via Mysuru. I reached Lambanitandya village junction around 1.30am on Oct 7 and decided to rest for a while. I parked the car on the service road. In a few minutes, a jeep stopped and its driver asked which was the way to Mysuru. I said I didn’t know. They drove away, and about 10 minutes later, the three men arrived and the rider threatened me with a knife. He snatched my gold chain while the others grabbed Rs 10,000 in cash placed on the dashboard. They also grabbed the two mobile phones kept on the seats,” Shaji stated in his complaint.Soon, Channapatna police discovered that one of the stolen phones was switched off at the place of the incident while the other was active till Ramanagara town. “This gave us a clue about where the miscreants had travelled to after the robbery. Scanning CCTV footage helped us identify and nab the suspects,” a cop said. The accused are Syed Tanvir alias Tannu of Channapatna town, and his associates Fairoz Pasha and Tanvir Pasha, of Ramanagara town. Syed Tanvir has more than 10 criminal cases, including robbery, dacoity, and house theft, registered against him.
