Mysuru: The Chamarajanagar district administration is launching Kannada training programme for non-Kannadiga officers working in various departments.Preparations are being made to start the first phase of formal training on Oct 18. The initiative will cover staff from public and private banks, postal departments, and other institutions. The move follows a govt direction to ensure Kannada usage in all official communication.The district administration has directed the district lead bank managers to prepare a list of non-Kannadiga officers and staff from other states working in various 140 public sector banks, including rural and small finance banks, across the district, so they are trained in the language.The departments of Kannada and culture, and school education and literacy have been entrusted with the responsibility of selecting resource persons to train these officers. “Best Kannada teachers” picked by the school education and literacy department will be deputed to train the officers. They will be taught Kannada in a formal way, so they can communicate and read the language.“This training will be of immense help for non-Kannadiga staff as it helps us learn Kannada in a formal way. It also helps us read and write,” said Mahendra, who has been working at a public sector bank in Chamarajanagar for the last five years.District Lead Bank manager Surekha said that she has directed all bank managers to send their non-Kannadiga officers and staff to the training programme, and make it a success.Chamarajanagar DC Shilpa Nag said the training programme is aimed at ensuring smooth functioning and administration in the district. Directions have been given to the departments concerned to make necessary preparations for the programme, she added.
