Mandya: In connection with the tragic incident at the Markonahalli Dam in Nagamangala taluk, police recovered one more body on Thursday, bringing the death toll to five. The latest victim was identified as Tabassum (44), whose body was found about five kilometres downstream from the spot where the family was swept away.The mishap occurred on Tuesday when a sudden release of water from the dam swept away seven members of a family who were on a picnic. Search operations are still underway to trace one person who remains missing. Preliminary reports suggest that the tragedy occurred when the dam’s crest gates reportedly opened automatically as water levels rose, causing a sudden surge downstream. The 15-member family, residents of BG Palya in Tumakuru district, stopped at the dam after visiting relatives in Magadipalya.Two bodies were recovered on the day of the incident, two more on Wednesday, and one on Thursday, taking the total to five. The Nagamangala Rural Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
