Madikeri: Ten mantaps went around Madikeri city during Dasara night on Thursday, attracting thousands of spectators, including locals and tourists.The ten mantaps, portraying the victory of good over evil, included Dechuru Ramamandira Temple with Ramanjaneya Vyabhava, Kodandarama Temple with Adichunchanagiri history of Kalabhairava, Kote Ganapathi Temple with Ganesha killing Mamathasura, Karavale Bhagavathi Temple with Anjaneya Mahatme, Pete Ramamandira Temple with Geethopadesam, Chaudeshwari Temple with Chandika Avathara, Dandina Mariyamma Temple with the killing of Andhakaasura by Lord Shiva, Kundurumotte Chauti Mariyamma Temple with Shiva killing Jaalandhara, Kanchi Kamakshi Temple with Parashurama killing Karthaveeryarjuna, and Kote Mariayamma Temple.Under the supervision of Kodagu SP Ramarajan, over 1,500 policemen were deployed to provide security and manage the crowd. After the stampedes at the state capital Bengaluru and Karur in Tamil Nadu, police top brass instructed the strict implementation of preventive measures, Ramarajan said.Meanwhile, Kannada singer and composer Raghu Dixit’s programme on Wednesday night enthralled the large audience in Gandhi Maidan at Madikeri during the Ayudha Puja celebrations.Gonikoppal Dasara also attracted more spectators as it included a parade of 15 tableaux, including seven by various govt agencies, which were taken around the town during evening hours.
