Iranna Kadadi urges CM Siddaramaiah to halt caste survey

Belagavi: Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi has accused chief minister Siddaramaiah of conducting the caste survey under the guise of a socio-educational survey to protect his position as CM. He demanded that the survey, which is set to begin on Monday, be stopped immediately. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Kadadi criticised the Siddaramaiah-led state govt for its failure to provide compensation for rain damage and for not undertaking any significant development work in the state. He further stated that a few people had predicted a revolution in Sept. “The govt might be attempting to prevent that with this new initiative,” he said. “Siddaramaiah comes from a socialist background. As socialist proponent Ram Manohar Lohia once said, politics is short-term religion, but religion is long-term politics. We should understand and act accordingly. About 210 new castes were created for the survey. Out of these, 47 castes were created to include the Christian community. The people of the state are confused about the survey. CM Siddaramaiah has done a new gimmick to protect his shaky chair. Only the central govt has the legal right to conduct a caste census,” he said.BJP state vice-president Anil Benake, city president Geeta Sutar, corporator and advocate Hanumant Kongali, and former MLA Sanjay Patil were present.
