SWR to extend cancellation of B’luru-M’luru day train to mid-Dec

Mangaluru: The South Western Railway (SWR) has extended the cancellation of day train services on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru/Karwar sector for another 44 days, until Dec 16. The extension was undertaken to complete the ongoing railway electrification (RE) work on the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road (SBHR) Ghat section of the Hassan-Mangaluru line.A notification from the principal chief operations manager, SWR, Hubballi, stated that the railway ministry permitted the extension of the line block of four hours daily for 44 days from Nov 2 to Dec15 for RE work on the SKLR-SBHR section. Consequently, the following trains will remain cancelled.Train No. 16539, Yesvantpur-Mangaluru Junction (MAJN) Weekly Express, until Dec13. Train No. 16540, MAJN-Yesvantpur Weekly Express, until Dec 14. Train No. 16575, Yesvantpur-MAJN tri-Weekly Gomateshwara Express, until Dec 14. Train No. 16576, MAJN-Yesvantpur tri-Weekly Gomateshwara Express, until Dec 15. Train No. 16515, Yesvantpur-Karwar tri-Weekly Express, until Dec15, and Train No. 16516, Karwar-Yesvantpur tri-Weekly Express, until Dec16.Sources said that RE did not progress as expected because of landslips on the ghat section and heavy rains.
