Mangalore University launches tourism club; experts stress blending technology with local languages, culture

MANGALURU: The tourism sector, influenced by science and technology, is creating vast opportunities in the modern era. Those entering the field must, along with linguistic proficiency, also develop greater awareness of local languages and cultures, said former Director of Mangalore International Airport, M.R. Vasudev.He was speaking after inaugurating the Tourism Club and launching the first-year induction programme Ignisia, organised by the MBA Department’s Tourism and Travel Management section at Mangalore University on Saturday. “India is growing in the field of tourism today. Foreign tourists now have access to better facilities. Students of the tourism department must make use of modern opportunities and move ahead,” he said.Dean of the Commerce Department, Prof. Puttanna, speaking as the chief guest, said: “Modern technologies must not be misused. With proper and effective use, they should be turned into opportunities. However, it is concerning that among children and youth, the use of mobile phones is increasing while human relationships are diminishing.”Chairman of the MBA (TTM) Department, Dr. Shekar Naik, who presided over the programme, said the Tourism Club would inspire the growth of students in the tourism sector and provide a platform for many activities.
