Revanna blames police for Mosalehosahalli tragedy, demands swift action

Hassan: JD(S) MLA HD Revanna alleged that the tragic incident in Mosalehosahalli that claimed 10 lives was a result of police negligence. He demanded immediate action against those responsible.Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Revanna alleged that the tragedy could have been averted if police had taken timely and appropriate precautions during the Ganesha idol immersion procession. The former minister pointed out that barricades should have been set up at least 500 metres before the procession route and vehicular traffic should have been halted until the procession had safely passed the main road,” the former minister said. “Had this been done, the unfortunate loss of lives could have been prevented,” he said. He urged the state govt to raise the compensation amount. He demanded that the public be informed about the investigation into the tragedy.With 5,000-6,000 people attending the procession, he argued that superintendent of police MS Mohammad Sujeetha should have held a meeting beforehand. The MLA said the SP should have taken action against officers at fault. He gave a one-week deadline for action against those responsible, failing which the next course of action will be decided. He asked home minister G Parameshwara to visit the accident site.
