Muslim leaders decided to postpone the Eid Milad procession from Sept 5 to 14, making way for the grand immersion procession of Ganesha idols. Eid Milad, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Belagavi on Sunday. The Muslim community, dressed in new clothes or traditional attire, enthusiastically participated in the Eid Milad programme, attracting attention.Religious leader Mufti Manzoor Alam delivered a festive message at the programme. Various organisations and Muslims distributed bananas, ice cream, laddus, drinking water, and sherbet to the participants of the procession.MLA Asif Sait said: “Let us all follow the path laid down by Prophet Muhammad. Let us respect our elders, especially our parents. Let us live in the society with love and coexistence.”Former MLA Feroz Sait said, “Muslims have given a message of unity to the country by postponing the Eid Milad procession. Hindus and Muslims are like brothers in Belagavi. Let us continue this tradition. Let us extend a helping hand to the poor.”Deputy commissioner Mohammed Roshan said Belagavi is known for peace, harmony, and coexistence. It would continue and become a model for the state, the country, and the world, he added.The Eid procession, which started from the old Pune-Bengaluru Road, passed via the Central Bus Stand, Sangolli Rayanna Circle, Rani Channamma Circle, College Road, Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle, and reached the Hazrat Syed Asad Khan Dargah premises in the Camp area.No restrictions for DJ, laser lightsThe use of DJs and laser lights was seen everywhere the procession went, and the public of Belagavi expressed their displeasure, saying that this was a violation of the police commissioner’s restrictions.The traffic route was changed in view of the Eid Milad procession. The procession started from Pimple Katta and went through Fort Road, Mujawara, Koot, Central Bus Stand, Market, Police Station, Cross, Sangolli, Rayanna Circle. It ended at DC’s Office Gate, Chennamma Circle, College Road, Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle, Wish Market Group Circle.The procession was a source of joy in the city. Islamic flags were flown. Qawwalis resonated throughout the procession.City police commissioner Bhushan Borase, Gadag district superintendent of police Rohan Jagadish, religious leader Peerasab Syed Qasim Ashraf, City police deputy commissioner (law & order) Narayan Bharamani, leaders Faizan Sait, Aman Sait, Vikas Kalaghatagi, and Ranjit Chavan Patil were present.Police had stepped up security throughout the city.
