Haveri: In the village of Guddada Anveri, a mother and the person that she had an illicit relationship with, killed her four-year-old daughter, Priyanka, allegedly because she was an obstacle to their affair, authorities said.Gangamma Manjunath Guttal, 36, from AKG Colony and Annappa Hanumanthappa Madivalar, 40, from Gaurishankar Nagar were detained in connection with the murder. According to police, the two conspired to kill Priyanka, Gangamma’s third daughter. Two months ago, Gangamma left her husband and moved with her daughter to live with Annappa in Guddada Anveri village.On Aug 5, they smothered Priyanka till she died, and attempted to burn her body near the Upper Tunga Project (UTP) canal in Kurugunda village, Haveri taluk. The body was partially burnt when it was discovered. Locals notified the police, and Guttal station officers conducted the last rites, treating the remains as an unidentified body.The case emerged when Gangamma’s husband Manjunath, insisted, on getting his child back from Gangamma. Gangamma kept pushing for a month with excuses that the daughter was in Mysuru, unwell, or in a hospital. Frustrated, Manjunath approached PSI Gaddappa Gunjutagi, who assured a resolution.The murder was uncovered after a month, when interogatting Gangamma and Annappa. The police detained the accused for further investigation, and a case was registered at the rural police station.The illicit relationship began at a hotel where Gangamma and Annappa were working together. Their affair started a year ago. Gangamma, who has three children, left her two elder children with her husband and took her third child, Priyanka, with her, said police.
