Madikeri: The 60th martyrdom anniversary of Mahavir Chakra recipient Squadron Leader Ajjamada B Devaiah was observed in Kodagu. He was remembered with floral tributes at the Ajjamada Devaiah statue circle at Madikeri, by retd Air Marshal KC Nanda Cariappa and former speaker KG Bopaiah.The Kigattnad Ex-servicemen’s Association of Ponnampet paid floral tributes to AB Devaiah at the junction of Kanur-Hudikeri road in Ponnampet. The programme was attended by the association’s president IK Mandanna; vice-president, CM Ramesh; secretary, PA Sham Prashad; treasurer, IK Thammaiah; and others.It can be recalled that Devaiah had shot down the enemy pursuer’s plane during the 1965 India-Pakistan war but in the process, his aircraft was damaged and he went missing and was recognised a martyr. Twenty-three years later, in 1988, he was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra.
