Hubballi: A youth was stabbed during the Ganesha idol immersion procession in Hubballi. The incident occurred late at night on Saturday. Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the hospital and obtained information about the health of the injured person from the doctors.Chetan Gowda, 32, from Bidnal Maruti Nagar, was attacked and is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in the city. It is said that Shiri from Sonia Gandhi Nagar and two others stabbed Chetan. Town police inspector MM Tahasildar told TOI that the incident took place during the idol immersion procession and the exact reason is yet to be ascertained. He said the accused will be arrested soon.In a separate incident, a person was injured after being hit by a rod installed to support the DJ system during the Ganesh idol immersion procession. He was taken to KMC-RI, Hubballi. Prashant Kathare from Channapet was injured in the incident. The rod penetrated his stomach. People present at the spot pulled Prashant out and took him to the hospital by ambulance, which was deployed by the police to handle emergencies.Youth assaults two during Ganesha procession in BagalkotBagalkot: A youth, identified as Asif Belgaumkar, 21, allegedly assaulted two persons during a Ganesha idol immersion procession in Hosamurnal village in the district on Saturday night. As the procession, organised by the Veer Savarkar Ganesh Mandal, made its way through the village, Asif, who was holding a green flag, approached the group. When members of the Mandal objected to Asif’s actions, he assaulted two youths — one from his own community and the other from the Hindu community. “A case was registered at Kaladagi police station. Asif was detained for questioning,” said Sidharth Goyal, superintendent of police, Bagalkot.
