DYFI launches march seeking jobs and priority for locals

Mangaluru: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Dakshina Kannada district committee, commenced a three-day Yuvajana Jatha demanding employment generation, priority for locals in recruitments, and implementation of the recommendations of the Sarojini Mahishi Report.The programme was inaugurated by senior theatre artiste Santhosh Shetty Hiriyadka in Belthangady on Sunday. Shetty expressed concerns about the environmental damage caused by industries in the district, leaving job opportunities elusive for local youth. He emphasised the need for the DYFI’s march to raise awareness among the youth.DYFI district president BK Imthiyaz spoke about the turbulent atmosphere in Dakshina Kannada affecting the youth, stating that the unrest is hindering the district’s development and destroying jobs. He stressed the importance of establishing peace and harmony for job creation and development.DYFI district secretary Santosh Bajal, who led the youth march, discussed its objectives and demands from the govt. He highlighted the numerous vacancies in govt departments in the district and the lack of priority given to tourism. He suggested that promoting tourism in places like Jamalabad Fort and the Western Ghats without harming the environment could create many jobs for local youth.DYFI district treasurer Manoj Vamanjoor, district president of the Democratic Women’s Association Kiran Prabha, and others were present. A street play was performed to raise awareness of resistance.The jatha passed through Uppinangady, Puttur, BC Road, Farangipete, and Bajal on the first day. On Monday, the jatha will commence from Vamanjoor and will pass through Gurpura, Kaikamba, Moodbidri, Mulki, Surathkal, and Kasaba Bengre. On Tuesday, the jatha will commence from Mudipu and will pass through Deralakatte, Ullal, and Thokkottu. A valedictory jatha will be taken out from Ambedkar Circle to Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru.
