Bengaluru: Lokayukta sleuths arrested two constables from Devanahalli and Vyalikaval police stations, in two separate cases of corruption. In the first case, a woman, 35, whose daughter was sexually abused by a rowdy-sheeter a few months ago, approached Lokayukta police and filed a complaint against sub-inspector Jagadevi and constables Manjunath and Amaresh of Devanahalli police station for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 70,000 to file a chargesheet against the rowdy-sheeter. SI Jagadevi and constable Manjunath, who was working as an investigation assistant, are on the run, and efforts are on to nab them. Under the guidance of Lokayukta team, supervised by superintendent of police Kona Vamsikrishna, the woman paid Rs 50,000 to Amaresh Wednesday evening. Sleuths in plain clothes caught Amaresh red-handed in the station. A senior officer said Jagadevi and Manjunath, who were also on duty, may have noticed the Lokayukta team during the raid and escaped. The case was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act Sections 8 (punishment for sexual assault) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment). In the second case, a head constable attached to Vyalikaval police station was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 Thursday evening. The tainted head constable, Dayananda, was arrested by a team under the guidance of SP Shivaprakash Devaraju. The complainant, SR Raghavendra, who runs a YouTube channel, telecast an interview with one Shivaramegowda in which he spoke about a pro-Kannada organisation’s president and others. The photos of the president and his family members were uploaded in the video, and derogatory comments were made. The secretary of the Kannada organisation filed a complaint in court, which ordered filing of a complaint against Shivaramegowda at Vyalikaval police station. Head constable Dayananda threatened to include Raghavendra as an accused in the case and demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to consider him as a witness instead. Raghavendra filed a complaint with Lokayukta, and the head constable was caught accepting Rs 50,000 as advance payment.
