Mangaluru: Two teachers from Dakshina Kannada have been selected for the state-level Best Teacher Award, presented by the dept of school education and literacy on Teachers’ Day in Bengaluru.Satish Bhat, headmaster of Sri Ramakunjeshwara High School in Ramakunja, Puttur, received the award at the high school level, while Jagadish Shetty A, head teacher at the Government Higher Primary School in Amblamogaru, Mangaluru South BEO, Ullal taluk, Dakshina Kannada, was honoured at the primary level.Satish Bhat, a teacher with over 34 years of experience, worked in a school located in a rural area. Despite the rural setting, Bhat ensured that the school consistently achieved over 90% results in mathematics and science, demonstrating his dedication to nurturing young minds. As a district-level resource person for mathematics, he conducted hundreds of workshops, influencing numerous educators and students. Additionally, his role as a yoga instructor contributed to the holistic development of students, many of whom became yoga instructors themselves.Since 2015, Bhat served as a senior graduate assistant, playing a crucial role in the school’s success in NMMS and NTSE exams. Under his guidance, 111 students secured prestigious scholarships, and the school consistently ranked among the top in the district and state. His innovative approach included creating over 72 educational videos viewed by thousands and establishing state-of-the-art science, math, and language labs. Jagadish Shetty, boasts an illustrious career spanning 37 years, including 13 years as head teacher. Under his leadership, the school experienced significant growth and development. He spearheaded the establishment of a high school in Amblamogaru, securing 2.3 acres of land and constructing a state-of-the-art building with a grant of Rs 1.3 crore. His efforts more than doubled school enrolment, increasing from 106 to 217 students, and introduced innovative bilingual education from Class I-VIII.Shetty’s commitment extended beyond academics. He organised free school bus services, appointed honorary teachers, and implemented smart TV and computer-based teaching with donor support. His initiatives earned the school accolades, including the Best Discipline and Cleanliness School Awards. As a dedicated Scout teacher for 35 years, Shetty trained countless students and teachers, earning the Long Service Scouting Award.
