A video of US airbase in Jordan shows repeated explosions over what is claimed to be the Muwaffaq Salti Airbase after Iran launched a ballistic missile strike targeting a US military base near Al Azraq. The footage, recorded at night, shows a darkened landscape illuminated by bright lights from what appears to be a military or airport facility. Moments later, bright flashes erupt repeatedly across the night sky, with bursts of light visible near the horizon. The caption accompanying the video identifies the location as the Muwaffaq Salti Airbase in Jordan. The strike came as Iran and the United States resumed exchanging fire in recent days following a month of relative calm in August. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its ballistic missiles targeted a US base near Al Azraq and claimed the attack inflicted heavy damage. Iranian state media also released footage it said showed missiles being launched towards Jordan.Jordan, however, said its air defences intercepted 18 of the 20 Iranian missiles fired towards the country. The remaining two missiles fell in unpopulated areas, according to Jordanian authorities, who said there were no casualties. The latest exchange has also rattled energy markets. Benchmark Brent crude rose to its highest level since July 23 as Iran and the US resumed hostilities. Brent crude futures climbed by another $1 a barrel after the Iranian attack on Jordan, although prices remained below the $100-a-barrel mark despite the latest disruptions. The Jordan attack came as Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen launched strikes on several Saudi cities, further drawing another key US ally into the expanding conflict.US forces have also struck multiple Iranian oil tankers, adding to the pressure on Tehran and raising concerns over further disruption to oil supplies and shipping routes across the region.Iran has repeatedly targeted US allies in the Middle East during the war, including Jordan. An Iranian strike on Jordan in July killed two US military personnel, underscoring the growing risks to American forces and regional partners as the conflict spreads beyond the immediate battlefield. The latest missile attack marks another escalation after weeks of relative calm and comes as the US-Iran confrontation increasingly threatens to spill into a broader regional conflict, with military bases, oil infrastructure and key energy routes facing mounting risks.
