A Padmashri awardee and currently the Gordon Y Billard Professor of Accounting and Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Kothari’s academic and professional journey is remarkable. From his early education at Govt College in Kalaburagi to BITS Pilani, IIM Ahmedabad, and his doctoral research in the US, he consistently demonstrated brilliance and perseverance, commented Amarnath Patil, former president of Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce. Kothari previously served in pivotal roles, including chief economist and director of the division of economic and risk analysis at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), besides holding leadership positions at MIT. His expertise in financial markets, corporate governance, and economic policy earned him global recognition. “This appointment marks not only a personal milestone for Kothari but also a matter of pride for Kalaburagi, Karnataka, and India, as he continues to contribute at the highest levels of global economic policy-making,” Patil added.
