Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police have deepened their probe after an autorickshaw driver on Sunday claimed that he was assaulted and sustained injuries.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that upon verification, it was found that neither the autorickshaw nor the driver went to the place where he claimed the assault took place. Some other evidence also raised suspicion. When he was interrogated based on this, he admitted that he lied to everyone, cooked up the incident, and that the cut injury he sustained was self-inflicted.It may be recalled that on Sunday, an autorickshaw driver claimed that some unidentified person tried to attack him, alleging that he was giving information to the police. There was a small injury on his back, and the driver claimed that he kicked the person back and the assailant ran away.However, during interrogation, he told police that he was being threatened by some individuals against whom he gave information earlier, and so he did it before they could attack him. However, this claim is also being verified, the commissioner said.
