Stock market today: Sensex slips 70 points, Nifty ends flat
Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty ended little changed on Tuesday as investors remained cautious ahead of key global central bank policy meetings this week and amid broad-based weakness across Asian markets.
The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 69.86 points (0.09%) to close at 76,765.92. During the session, the index touched an intraday high of 76,988.48 and a low of 76,672.77, swinging 315.71 points. The Nifty 50 slipped 10.60 points (0.04%) to settle at 23,985.35.
Among Sensex constituents, Hindustan Unilever was the biggest loser, tumbling 6.97% after the FMCG major reported a 3.17% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,680 crore for the June quarter, largely due to exceptional items and higher tax expenses. Bharat Electronics, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Power Grid and Reliance Industries also ended lower.
On the gaining side, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Eternal, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Titan led the advances.
