Dharmasthala mass burial case: Mohanty’s name on UPSC list sparks speculation | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: Speculation over continuation of senior IPS officer Pronab Mohanty, a Director General of Police, as the head of the Special Investigation Team investigating the Dharmasthala mass burial case flared up after home minister G Parameshwara said the govt was willing to replace him if he wanted to move to the Centre.Mohanty’s name was included in this year’s Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) empanelment list of senior bureaucrats cleared for central deputation released Tuesday. There have been unconfirmed reports that some of the SIT members were not keen to continue after a woman officer opted out of the team last week.Parameshwara told reporters that the state govt could replace Mohanty as chief investigating officer of the SIT if he’s keen on central deputation. However, some senior police officers feel that there is no basis for speculation. “So far, Mohanty has not written to the govt about his willingness to opt for central deputation. Also, there are no vacancies for DGP-rank officer,” an officer said. Mohanty, who is in Dharmasthala, refused to comment on the issue when contacted.
