Parents protest over unsafe school building; demand road to new campus in Malkapally village

Kalaburagi: Parents in Malkapally village, Sedam taluk, protested on Saturday, demanding the relocation of the dilapidated school building following a ceiling collapse that injured three students.Parents condemned the officers concerned and called for the school to be moved to a new building and for the construction of a road to the new school, which is a furlong away from the village. They held a sit-in protest at the old school premises, insisting on the shift to the new building.Navaadreddy, a gram panchayat member of the village, stated that the absence of a path to the new school was the reason the school continued to operate in the old building.Speaking to the TOI, deputy director of public instruction Suryakanth Madane said he was camping in Malkapally village since Saturday morning and holding meetings with villagers. He added that there was private land between the village and the new school building, and the landowner had erected a temporary cattle shed. However, the landowner has now been convinced to allow a permanent road to the new school building with the assistance of a JCB.All obstructions have been removed, clearing the path to the new school, Madane said, and announced that from Monday onwards, the new school building will commence operations and all children will be transferred to the new facility. He emphasised that the school remained in the old building solely due to the lack of access, but with the hurdles now removed, the new school will be functional starting Monday.
