State govt gives funds to build retaining walls, taluk offices in Kodagu | Mysuru News
Madikeri: Revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday said the state govt will extend Rs 50 crore for the construction of retaining walls in landslide-prone areas in Kodagu district.Speaking to reporters after touring rain-affected areas, he said an action plan was prepared by Kodagu deputy commissioners following discussions with two MLAs from the district. The Rs 50-crore plan is ready for the construction of retaining walls at such places. The govt will sanction this amount within two months, he stated.He visited the Ponnampet taluk tahsildar’s office, toured Virajpet, inspected the bridge site near Balyamundur to assess the rain damage, and held a meeting with senior officials at Madikeri. Kodagu MLAs Manthar Gowda and AS Ponnanna accompanied him.The minister said that after the formation of Kushalnagar and Ponnampet taluks, the BJP govt did not extend funds to build taluk offices. “We have sanctioned Rs 17 crore to build Praja Soudhas, which is essential for the taluk administration. The tender was approved for the construction, and work will begin shortly,” he said.Regarding the Kodagu land ownership (Pattedar-Pahani) legal problems, the govt is considering making necessary amendments to benefit the landholders, the minister said.Meanwhile, the minister asked the officials to ensure that facilities are delivered to the people and that people should not have to visit govt offices. The work of those who come to the revenue offices should be completed within a stipulated time, he said.
