Bengaluru: Leaving the door unlocked proved costly for a woman, as her neighbour allegedly stole gold ornaments worth almost Rs 4.8 lakh in a matter of minutes. According to the complaint filed by Kavitha, 35, a resident of 4th Cross, Vishnu Road, Kadirenahalli in Banashankari Second Stage, the suspect was identified as Dhanush. The incident happened between 8.40am and 8.50am. Kavitha was living with her husband and two children, a 14-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son, and was working as domestic help. Her husband was working at a private hospital.She latched the door from outside around 8.40am and left home to drop her children at a nearby school, asking her sister-in-law to keep an eye on the house. When she returned home around 8.50 am, her brother’s wife informed her that Dhanush sneaked into her house and escaped with some valuables, despite her efforts to stop him.Kavitha went inside the house and found the almirah lock was broken open, and the gold ornaments, including six pairs of earrings and other ornaments weighing 56 grams worth almost Rs 4.8 lakh, were stolen.A senior officer said Dhanush was at large and efforts were on to nab him. A case was registered at Banashankari police station under the BNS section 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship, etc).
