Mangaluru: A migrant labourer from Jharkhand, who has been working seasonally in Mangaluru for the past 10-15 years, was allegedly attacked by four men on Sunday after they accused him of being a Bangladeshi national. The victim, Diljan Ansar, works in the city for four to six months each year.The assailants reportedly demanded that he show his identity documents and made derogatory remarks. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that when Ansar insisted he was not Bangladeshi, the men assaulted him further, causing a head injury that resulted in heavy bleeding. A woman intervened to help him.Fearing retaliation, the migrant initially did not file a complaint and returned home. Local leaders brought the matter to police attention, and authorities verified the facts. Police have been instructed to arrest the accused immediately.Speaking to television channels, Ansar said the attack occurred while he had gone out to buy chicken. He alleged that two men called out to him, questioning his village and accusing him of being Bangladeshi. His mobile phone was reportedly damaged, and he was asked to produce his Aadhaar card.Ansar further stated that the men inquired about his religion. When he said he was Muslim, they allegedly forced him to chant “Jai Shri Ram” three times before assaulting him. Four individuals, reportedly armed with a trowel carried by the victim, were involved in the attack.The suspects are Sagar, Danush, Lalu alias Rathish, and Mohan, all residents of Kulur, and their backgrounds are being verified. A case has been registered at Kavoor police station under sections 126 (2), 109, 352, 351 (3), 353, 118 (1) r/w 3(5) of the BNS.
