Elephants driven out of coffee plantations in Kodagu

MADIKERI: The forest department was successful in driving a herd of elephants that camped in coffee plantations into the forest.An operation was carried out to drive more than ten wild elephants that holed up in the coffee plantations of a private company in Badaga Banangala village under the Thithimathi forest range. During this operation, more than ten wild elephants, including a calf, were found, said Deputy Range Forest Officer Shashi, who led the operation team.The wild elephants in the Meera group, which were fitted with radio collars, were also driven into the reserve forest of Maldare village. The operation was led by Virajpet Taluk Deputy Forest Officer Jagannath Manaji, ACF Gopala, and Range Forest Officer Gangadhar.
