Three months after fatal dog attack in Bengaluru, victim’s kin set to receive Rs 5 lakh compensation

Bengaluru: Three months after the tragic death of Seethappa, who was mauled by a pack of stray dogs in Kodigehalli, Yelahanka, his family is finally set to receive the Rs 5- lakh compensation promised by the authorities, following intervention by Bengaluru North city corporation commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar.Seethappa, 68, was on his way to a tea stall around 3am on July 29 when he was attacked by stray dogs. The incident had triggered outrage with many hitting out at the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for failing to contain the stray problem.Seethappa’s son Venkatesh told TOI Thursday that despite repeated visits to the civic agency’s zonal office, the compensation was not released. When TOI subsequently checked with commissioner Kumar, he promised immediate action and cleared the file, assuring that the compensation would be credited in the beneficiary’s account within a day. Speaking to TOI, he later said: “I will ensure Venkatesh receives the promised amount.On Wednesday, another horrific incident involving dogs had occurred in Kodigehalli, when Veeresh Ullala, 33, was brutally attacked by a stray pack.Meanwhile, Maheshwar Rao, chief commissioner of GBA, said the authorities are planning to build shelter homes and canals for stray dogs in all five city corporations. “We will refer to the recent Supreme Court order on stray dogs and take directions accordingly,” he added.
