Mysuru: Two cubs of a tigress, suspected to have killed farmer Rajashekhar in Bennegere village near Mullur in Saraguru taluk on Oct 26, were shifted to the Bannerughatta Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Bengaluru.Bandipur Tiger Reserve director S Prabhakaran said the cubs are 7 weeks old and were rescued during the combing operation. As the mother didn’t turn up to take care of these cubs, they were shifted to Bannerughatta. “The mother tigress was spotted on a drone camera late on Friday,” he said.The distance between Bennegere and Kudagi village, where another farmer was killed by a tiger on Friday, is around 8 km. “In both Mulluru and Kudagi, a combing operation was launched to nab the big cat,” he said.Former member of the State Wildlife Board, Joseph Hoover, urged the forest department to come out with a detailed report on recent incidents of tiger cub deaths in the state, and why mothers are deserting cubs. “It is a serious issue,” he said.Meanwhile, on Saturday, the postmortem of farmer Doddaningaiah, who was killed by a tiger in Kudagi, was done at KR Hospital’s mortuary, and his body was handed over to his family members. District minister HC Mahadevappa visited the village and paid respects. He consoled the farmers and family members of the deceased.Mahadevappa assured that the state govt will come out with a comprehensive action plan to bring down the wildlife-human conflict in the forest fringes.Meanwhile, Chamarajanagara MP Sunil Bose visited Kudagi village and consoled the family members of the deceased farmer after paying last respects. He reviewed the combing operation and interacted with forest department officials about finding a solution to the human-animal conflict.
