MYSURU: C. S. Babu Nagesh, Joint Director of the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTPC), on Monday called upon industrialists and entrepreneurs to significantly reduce the import of foreign goods and prioritise increased domestic production for export.Delivering the keynote address after inaugurating a six-day Export Management Training Program, organised by the VTPC and aimed at expanding the state’s export sector, Nagesh stressed that market study is crucial for aspiring exporters. He stated that successful ventures depend on understanding which products are in high demand globally. He then highlighted Karnataka’s strong position in the national trade landscape. The state contributes a massive 41% of India’s export services and holds the first rank nationally in exporting goods. While leading in exports, Karnataka is ranked fourth in importing goods, trailing Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.Nagesh emphasised that the VTPC is the state’s only export training institution and urged participants, who travelled from cities including Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Bagalkot, to utilise the training fully. He assured attendees that VTPC would provide the necessary support to boost their export activities.Suresh Kumar Jain, General Secretary of the Mysore Industries Association, supported the VTPC’s mission, advising entrepreneurs to focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing before aggressively pursuing global markets. He reinforced the need to decrease dependence on foreign imports, urging the participants to take advantage of the six-day program to become successful exporters in this challenging field.
