Mangaluru: KPCC spokesperson AC Vinayaraj accused the BJP leaders of allegedly creating confusion among the public regarding the upcoming social and educational survey to be conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. On Thursday, he told reporters that the survey is aimed at identifying disparities among scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes (OBCs) to ensure proper implementation of govt schemes. “This is not a caste census, Vinayaraj said, adding, “It is a constitutional exercise backed by the Supreme Court and existing laws.”Accusing the BJP leaders of deliberately misleading people by labelling the house-listing process as unscientific, he stated that those leaders, who are expected to act with responsibility, should not create confusion. “Let them clarify whether they stand with or against the welfare of backward communities,” he said.Tagging the houses with stickers is only a preparatory step to identify households for the survey. Further, this exercise is being executed by the commission, not the govt. Speaker UT Khader has already organised a workshop to disseminate information about the survey by inviting officials from the commission, he said.Flex boards in cityVinayaraj, a former corporator, urged the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to allow people to display flex boards at least for a week during the Dasara festival. “The MCC should consider the public sentiments as well as the cultural traditions. The city corporation should ensure such flex boards do not obstruct traffic movement or cause inconvenience to the public,” he added.
