Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted a raid Sunday at JW Marriott Hotel in the central business district for allegedly hosting a late-night party in violation of curfew norms.Officials found a couple of people under the influence of drugs, prompting action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Karnataka Police (KP) Act. A case has been registered at Cubbon Park police station and investigation is on.The raid, led by deputy commissioner of police (crime-2) Raja Imam Kasim, was carried out between 2am and 2.30am Sunday after receiving information that a party was being held past the permitted time. The CCB team, including officers from the anti-narcotics wing, found around 120 people at the hotel’s resto-bar, including approximately 30 women, with loud music being played by a DJ.Though no drugs were recovered from attendees, medical tests conducted on-site found that a couple of individuals were under the influence of substances such as ganja. These attendees claimed to have consumed the drugs at a prior event, but the authorities are verifying the statements.Sources indicated that some cricketers were present at the party, though police have refrained from naming them or revealing details of other guests. Initial information suggested the event was being held at a restaurant near Cubbon Park police station, but by the time officers reached the location, the crowd had shifted to JW Marriott on Vittal Mallya Road.Police are now probing the identity of the event organiser and gathering details of the participants, including the cricketers. CCB may take over the investigation as it progresses.Police said the raid highlights ongoing concerns about rule violations at nightlife venues in the city and the growing presence of narcotics at such gatherings. Police officers have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found violating the laws.
