3 held for cattle theft, slaughter

Mangaluru: Police arrested three persons on Friday in connection with a cattle theft and slaughter case reported near Thumbay on Aug 14 and found that the accused were also linked to a similar case registered at Uppinangady police station.According to police, a case of cattle theft was reported on Aug 14 within the Bantwal Rural police station limits, near Thumbay, Bantwal. The next day, the remains of the alleged stolen cattle were found nearby. In this connection, a case was registered at Bantwal Rural police station under Sections 303(2) of BNS, Sections 4 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, and Section 11(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and an investigation was taken up.The accused arrested in connection with the case include Irshad,34, a resident of Chembugudde, Ullal; Mahammad Mansoor,48, a resident of Kudroli, and Abdul Azeem,18, a resident of Kannur, Mangaluru. Interrogation revealed that the accused were also involved in a case registered at Uppinangady police station on Sept 4 under Sections 331(4), 305 of BNS, and Sections 4 and 5 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act. Investigation in both cases is ongoing.Case registered for spreading fake newsA case was registered against a man for allegedly spreading false information and making provocative remarks on social media about a cow theft and killing incident in Perne village. The accused is Narasimha Shetty of Mani.According to police, on the night of Sept 4, miscreants allegedly stole and killed a cow near a cowshed beside a house at Kadambu, Perne village, Bantwal. While speaking about this incident, Narasimha Shetty of Mani allegedly gave false information regarding the case and made provocative remarks likely to incite communal hatred and hostility between religions. A video of his statement was circulated on social media. Since such actions could disturb communal harmony and create fear among the public, a case was registered at Bantwal Rural police station.
