Vijayapura: A class 7 student consumed an overdose of iron and folic acid (IFA) tablets at a govt school in Muddebihal on Monday. The IFA tablets were kept for distribution among students.DDPI Veeraiah Salimath told TOI that the student was treated at a private hospital before being shifted to the taluk hospital in Muddebihal. “Muddebihal block education officer BS Savalagi visited the hospital. The student has alleged that he was harassed by a teacher. We have told the BEO to submit a detailed report. Once we receive it, we will take action against the teacher. Currently, the student is sent to a hospital in Bagalkot as per his parents’ request. The BEO is also in Bagalkot and collecting details of the incident,” the DDPI explained.According to his classmates, the teacher used to scold and beat the student for no reason.Meanwhile, social activist Basavaraj Pujari alleged that the IFA tablets were from the stock issued last year. “As they were kept and made easily available for students, teachers should be held responsible for the lapse,” he said.
