Motorcyclist killed as lorry hits two-wheeler near Ambalpady Junction

Udupi: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot after a lorry hit his two-wheeler near Ambalpady Junction in Udupi on Monday evening. The deceased is Pradeep Kumar, 33. According to the police, the accident took place at around 6:50 pm, near Ambalpady Junction along the National Highway 66 Karavali Bypass–Kinnimulki service road. It is alleged that the lorry driver, Luv Patil, driving from the Karavali Bypass side towards Kinnimulki, drove rashly and negligently and hit a motorcycle. The motorcycle was being ridden in the same direction by Pradeep Kumar. Due to the collision, Pradeep Kumar fell onto the road along with his motorcycle and sustained severe head injuries, resulting in his death on the spot. It is alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the NHAI and contractor who is carrying out flyover works near Ambalpady Junction. They failed to repair the potholes on the service road despite ongoing work. Consequently, the 16-wheeler lorry, allegedly driven rashly and negligently on the potholed service road, caused the accident. Based on a complaint filed by Sudhir, Shivapura, Karkala, a case has been registered at Udupi Traffic Police Station under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
