Police arrest two suspects in counterfeit gold coin fraud | Hubballi News

Davanagere: Police in Jagaluru station apprehended two suspects involved in an Rs 8 lakh fraud using counterfeit gold coins. The authorities recovered Rs 7.5 lakh in cash, 2 grams of gold, and 505 grams of fake gold coins from the suspects.The detained individuals are Prakash, 29, and Marappa, 58, residents of Batanalli village in Kotturu taluk, Vijayanagara district. The primary suspect, Suresh, remains at large. The fraud victim is Ramavat Bhaskar from Chalukurti Tanda in Nalgonda district, Telangana.In 2021, Suresh, a truck driver from Hampi in Vijayanagara district, visited Chalukurti Tanda and established contact with Ramavat Bhaskar. On April 9, Suresh contacted Ramavat regarding the discovery of gold coins. Ramavat travelled to Ballari with Rs 8 lakh to acquire half a kilogram of gold coins. The perpetrators directed him to Kananakatte village in Jagaluru taluk, where they exchanged the coins for cash before escaping. Following a complaint at Jagaluru station, police inspector Sidramayya’s team successfully traced the suspects.Interstate burglars arrested in DavanagereIn a separate case, KTJ Nagar police arrested three interstate burglars who broke into a residence in KB Extension, Davangere, and stole 18 kg of silver items. The arrested persons are Dinesh Kumar, 36, Dilip Kumar, 26, and Ramesh Kumar, 31, from Rajasthan. Police recovered 17.6 kg of silver items worth Rs 20 lakh from them. Dinesh Kumar has a previous criminal record in Gujarat.On July 14, when HA Girish of KB Extension was away, visiting Bengaluru, the criminals broke into his locked house and made away with 18.7 kg of silver items.
