Madikeri: Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar said the Union govt released Rs 94 crore for strengthening NH-275 from Sampaje to Kushalnagar. In a press statement, he said the highway stretch would see development work, and permanent relief work would be taken up with the sanctioned funds.The NH-275 stretch from Sampaje to Madikeri became a victim of landslides during the monsoons from 2018. Several regions near the highway posed a threat of collapse every monsoon, and temporary relief works were carried out to date.“The Union ministry of road transport and highways contributed to the development of NH-275 (Bantwal-Bengaluru section), one of the busiest highways in Karnataka (from Sampaje to Kushalnagar). This stretch will see overall development,” Yaduveer stated. An order was issued giving financial and technical sanction for the construction of protective walls and safety works in selected sections of the highway, he added.According to the technical report of the ministry, the project will include the construction of protective walls, a breast wall and drain, improvement of curves, and reconstruction of culverts. A total of 1,650m of RCC cantilever retaining wall and 110m of pressure relief walls will be constructed on the valley side of the highway.A total of 1,690m of road will be widened at 17 selected places to increase road safety. “Alongside this, protective crash barriers and modern traffic signs will be installed,” he stated. The project will be completed in 18 months, and the contractor will be responsible for its maintenance for the next 10 years.“The ministry imposed several conditions to maintain the quality of the project,” he added.
