Bengaluru: A Metro security guard was assaulted by four male passengers at Kempegowda Interchange station, Majestic, after he asked them to stand in queue before boarding a Green Line train. The 19-year-old victim, Indrajit Kumar, was allegedly slapped seven times and abused by the group around 12.45pm Sunday on platform 3 of the Green Line, when the men, all IT professionals from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, arrived on the crowded platform, planning to travel towards Madavara. Indrajit asked the group to move to an empty space and form a queue so they could board the last coach of the train. However, the men ignored his instructions and missed a train at 12.47pm. When Kumar repeated his request, asking them to queue up for the next train, one of the men turned violent. “One of them slapped the security staffer seven times and abused him; another kicked him. Metro staff immediately alerted police about the incident,” said a BMRCL source. Two elderly commuters confronted the group and stopped them from boarding the next train. Cops from Upparpet police station soon reached the platform and detained the men. An FIR was registered under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The four men were arrested before being released on station bail. The accused — Narahari Teja Pratap Reddy, 36, Srinivasa Reddy, 40, Surendra Reddy, 36, and Bhana Ashok Reddy, 35 — all reside in KR Pura. Kumar, a native of Bihar and employed as a security guard with Wisdom Security Agency, has been deployed at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro station for nine months. “Despite the attack, the Metro security staffer stayed calm and reported the incident to his seniors. Shockingly, many commuters witnessed the assault, but no one came forward to help him,” a BMRCL official said.
