Worker spends lavishly after stealing valuables from employer’s home in Bengaluru, held

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old man, who worked as a domestic help briefly in a businessman’s house, has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold and diamond ornaments from his employer.JC Nagar police partly recovered the stolen valuables worth Rs 35 lakh from Sacchin Sonakar, a native of Nevada village in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district. He had been employed as a housekeeper from May 20 till June 15 by furniture firm Featherlite’s owner Manohar Gopal of Miller’s Road, following a reference by Roshan, a cook working for a relative.Sonakar told Gopal’s wife on June 15 that he was going back to his native place due to an emergency and would return soon. He, however, didn’t come back.Roshan called Gopal on Sept 23 and asked him to check if Sonakar had stolen any valuables from his house, as he bought a new bike recently and was spending money lavishly at his native place.Gopal and his wife found gold and diamond ornaments missing from the locker in their bedroom. A police team, headed by inspector Chaitanya KM, went to Uttar Pradesh and nabbed Sonakar from his village on Sept 25. Sonakar told police that he had disposed of a couple of gold chains. He couldn’t sell the remaining ornaments easily as they contained diamonds. A senior officer said they recovered around 236.8 grams of gold and diamond ornaments.
