Karnataka: Stone-pelting over flex banner; situation now peaceful, 21 arrested

DAVANAGERE: Tension broke out in Karl Marx Nagar here on Wednesday night after an argument over the placement of a flex banner escalated into stone pelting around 10 pm.According to police, youths from two groups clashed over the banner. A few house doors were damaged in the incident, and a girl sustained minor injuries. She was admitted to the govt hospital.Davanagere SP Uma Prashanth, said: ”A banner was put up in Karl Marx Nagar, and another group objected to it. People had gathered, but the police immediately dispersed everyone. The situation is now completely peaceful. On stone pelting, we are inquiring further. Within five minutes, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The banner has also been removed.”Police personnel from Azad Nagar station acted swiftly to restore order, and officials said that peace has been restored in the area.Earlier this month, a similar incident of stone pelting during a procession in Maddur town of Mandya district had also required police intervention. Authorities had then arrested 21 people and registered cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
